Penn State Nittany Lions vs Boston College Eagles NCAA Prediction

Steve Donahue - Penn State Nittany Lions vs Boston College Eagles NCAA Prediction

The Boston College Eagles is slowly coming around in its rebuilding effort. Replacing nearly the entire team from last season, Eagles coach Steve Donahue plays nine freshman and has gotten inconsistent results as he searches for the right combination. Patrick Heckmann is emerging as the best of the bunch, leading the team in scoring a 13.8 points, and Ryan Anderson has shown flashes in the early going.

Boston College went to the 76 Classic in Anaheim, California over the weekend and came out with one win in three games, edging California-Riverside in overtime. Boston College will take a step up in competition on Wednesday when it hosts Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

The Nittany Lions have had trouble with the two strongest teams they have played - losing to Kentucky and St. Joseph's, but also have a player in Tim Frazier capable of putting the team on its back.

Penn State Nittany Lions (5-2): Frazier leads the team in scoring (19.1), rebounding (6.0) and assists (7.1) and is one of the frontrunners for Big Ten Player of the Year. The junior guard is coming off his worst game, when he scored eight points on 4-of-19 shooting in a 65-47 loss to St. Joe's. Frazier was 0 of 12 in the first half as the Nittany Lions fell into a big hole. The team shot 4 of 38 overall in the first half against the Hawks and are shooting nearly 20 percent better in the second halves of its games.

Boston College Eagles (2-4): The Eagles rank among the worst teams in Division I basketball in most offensive categories, averaging under 60 point and shooting 37.5 percent as a team. The signs of promise come in individual performances, like Heckmann's 32-point effort in the 66-62 win over UC-Riverside on Friday. Heckmann was held to six points on 2-of-5 shooting on Sunday against New Mexico, while Anderson and junior transfer Matt Humphrey combined to shoot 5 of 29 in the 75-57 loss.
