NCAA Predictions: Maryland Terrapins Host the Duke Blue Devils
Wednesday, January 25, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
Losses are not common for Duke Blue Devils during Mike Krzyzewski's tenure, and back-to-back losses have been even more infrequent.
The sixth-ranked Blue Devils will try to avoid losing two straight for the first time since February 2009 when they travel to face Maryland Terrapins, which will honor former coach Gary Williams with a court-naming ceremony.
The Blue Devils have won their past 13 games following a loss. Duke leads the series 110-61 and has won three straight and nine of 10 against the Terps, but six of those 10 games have been decided by 10 points or fewer.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Blue Devils listed as 10½-point favorites versus the Terrapins.
Duke Blue Devils (16-3): The Blue Devils dropped a 76-73 decision to Florida State on Saturday that snapped a 45-game home winning streak, but they're still tied atop the ACC standings with N.C. State and Florida State. Freshman Austin Rivers (14.4 points) leads four Duke players who average double-digit points; he had 19 against the Seminoles and earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time last week. The Blue Devils are one of only 12 teams with five players scoring in double figures.
Maryland Terrapins (12-6): Led by sophomore guard Terrell Stoglin, who paces the ACC with 21.2 points per game, the Terrapins are in the middle of the ACC pack. A win over the Blue Devils certainly would boost their chances of a strong finish and an NCAA Tournament bid. Those hopes need a boost after back-to-back road losses at Florida State and Temple. Center Alex Len left the Temple game with an ankle injury, but coach Mark Turgeon said Tuesday he expects Len to play.
1. Duke is 7-2 on the road and has won two straight ACC road games. The Blue Devils will try to make it three in a row at Comcast Center, where they've won three of four and are 5-4 all-time.
2. The Terrapins have won eight straight home games, including both of their games in ACC play. They are 11-1 at home.
3. Duke's bench has averaged 27.2 points since the beginning of ACC play. The Blue Devils have gotten at least 30 from their reserves in three of five ACC tilts.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Blue Devils 78, Terrapins 74.
