NCAA College Basketball Betting - Weekend Preview

College basketball betting is in the thick of conference play, with this weekend’s slate featuring some important league showdowns. Here’s a look at two of the biggest NCAA hoops games on the board Saturday:

- Ohio State Buckeyes at Illinois Fighting Illini

The No.1 team in the land heads to Champaign for this Big Ten battle. The Buckeyes flexed their muscles against lowly Iowa this week, thumping the Hawkeyes 70-48 as 19.5-point home favorites Wednesday – covering the college basketball pointspreads for the first time in five games.

While OSU bettors will gladly take the win, Ohio State head coach Thad Matta can’t be happy with his team’s careless play. The Buckeyes committed 20 turnovers to the Hawkeyes, who luckily gave the ball right back with 22 turnovers of their own. However, turnovers haven’t plagued OSU much this season and bettors will see a smarter Buckeyes unit on Saturday.

The Illini are coming off a huge win over Michigan State this week, downing the Spartans 71-62 as 4-point home favorites. Freshman stud Jereme Richmond seems to have buried the hatchet with head coach Bruce Weber and scored 14 points and grabbed five boards off the bench against MSU. Richmond, a 6-foot-7 versatile wing player, will be key in defending the Buckeyes’ inside-out attack.

- Texas Longhorns at Kansas Jayhawks

Kansas is looking for its 19th straight win against a dangerous Big 12 foe this Saturday. The undefeated Jayhawks, who have also won 69 straight games at Phog Allen Fieldhouse, are keeping an even keel, though, and don’t want to make the same mistakes they did last season when a 17-0 mark finished at 24-10 and a shocking exit from the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas picked up a statement win over Baylor, knocking off the Bears 85-65 as a 3.5-point road favorite in Waco on Monday.

Twin towers Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris combined for 44 points and 14 rebounds in the win and were stellar in the Jayhawks’ last meeting with the Longhorns. The Morris brothers totaled 26 points and 17 rebounds in KU’s 80-68 victory over Texas as a 1.5-point favorite in Austin last February.

The Horns are also coming off an impressive Big 12 victory, trumping state rival Texas A&M 81-60 as 6.5-point home chalk. Texas had the hot hand versus the Aggies, pouring in 81 points on 58 percent shooting.

Forward Jordan Hamilton dropped in 27 points, putting him third in the conference in scoring. The Longhorns also did a terrific job defending Texas A&M’s top contributors, holding David Loubeau and Nathan Walkup to a combined 15 points on 6 of 19 shooting.
