by Joe Rodriguez
No. 10 Kansas Jayhawks looks to go 3-0 in the Big 12 for the sixth straight season when it travels to Texas Tech Red Raiders. Kansas averages 75.1 points, but gets especially high marks for its defense, which allows only 59.2 points and has held eight opponents to 58 or fewer.
Texas Tech can’t match Kansas in offense (66.6) or defense (65.8), but the Red Raiders are 6-1 at home and rank second in the conference in field goal percentage (48.4). Kansas has dominated the series, holding a 20-4 edge, and has won the last three meetings.

The Jayhawks have opened as 15-point favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NCAA Basketball Odds.
Kansas Jayhawks (12-3): The Jayhawks are led by Thomas Robinson, the only player in the conference to average a double-double: 17.5 points and 12.1 rebounds. He leads the team with 39 of the club’s 78 dunks. Guard Tyshawn Taylor averages 14.7 points and has a team-high 77 assists; he’s averaging 6.8 assists over the last seven games. Travis Releford has been particularly hot; he scored a career-high 28 points in the last game against Oklahoma and is averaging 22 in three league games. The 3-point shooting has come from Elijah Johnson and reserve Conner Teahan, who both have netted 27.
Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-7): Freshman Jordan Tolbert leads the Red Raiders in scoring (14.8, sixth in the league) and rebounding (6.4, ninth in the league) and has knocked down 62.4 percent of his field goal attempts. Ty Nurse is the only other player in double figures (10.7 points) and leads the team with 22 3-pointers. Tech has suffered through patches of inconsistency that seem to inevitably come with youth: the Raiders have seven freshman. There has been some improvement, as Tech had four fewer turnovers against Baylor on Saturday than its season average of 17.
1. Texas Tech coach Billy Gillispie was formerly an assistant under Kansas coach Bill Self.
2. The Kansas bench has outscored its opponents’ bench in five of the last eight games.
3. The Jayhawks usually win the battle of the boards; they’ve tied or outrebounded 14 of 15 opponents.
