NCAA Baskteball Picks and Tips: No 15 Alabama at Dayton

Another defensive battle is expected when Dayton Flyers hosts Alabama Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide bring a strong interior defense and don’t mind getting physical when teams come into the paint. Dayton is smaller, but is very aggressive when it comes to defending the ball.
Opponents are averaging only 53.1 points against Alabama and only 66.6 against Dayton. Alabama is the first team from a BCS conference to visit Dayton since Pitt in 2007.

Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1): The Tide will try to bounce back from a disappointing last-second loss to Georgetown in the Big East/SEC Challenge. No. 12 Alabama is led by its Big Three: forwards JaMychal Green (15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds), Tony Mitchell (15.1 points, 7.8 rebounds) and guard Trevor Releford (11.3 points, 2.9 assists). The Tide needs to get more help on offense; the rest of the team managed only 13 points against Georgetown.
Dayton Flyers (5-3): The Flyers have lost two straight and were run out of the gym in a 75-58 loss at Murray State. Dayton has four players averaging in double figures: Kevin Dillard (12.4), Josh Benson (11.4), Paul Williams (10.4) and Chris Johnson (10.3). Matt Kavanaugh leads the team with seven rebounds. Look for Dayton to use the same kind of zone defense that Georgetown employed last week. Reserve Alex Gavrilovic will miss the game with an ankle sprain; he averages 1.9 points in 8.3 minutes.
1. Expect a big crowd; Dayton averages 12,402 at home.

3. This is the first of a two-year home-and-home series between the two schools.
