NCAA Baskteball Picks and Tips: Central Michigan at Nebraska
Tuesday, December 20, 2011
Frank Martin
With an eye on a season-high fourth straight win, Nebraska Cornhuskers will close out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday when it hosts Central Michigan Chippewas. The Huskers, who had two of their top three scorers sidelined in their last game, shot just 30.6 percent in the first half against Alcorn State. However, they pulled away after the break as Toney McCray scored a season-high 20 points in a 60-46 win over the Braves on Saturday. The Chippewas, on the other hand, enter this game with losses in four of their last five contests. In Saturday’s 59-52 setback at Iowa State, Central Michigan was held to a pair of free throws over the final 6:50 of the game and shot just 4-of-24 from the 3-point line as the Cyclones pulled away late.

The Cornhuskers have opened as 12.5-point favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NCAA Basketball Odds.
Central Michigan Chippewas (5-6): The Chippewas attempted only six free throws against Iowa State and were out-rebounded by at least nine boards for the third straight game. Trey Zeigler had 19 points in the loss and was the only player to score in double figures, the first time Central Michigan failed to have multiple players score at least 10 points. The team has played just one home game since Nov. 15 and is nearing the end of a stretch where it will play six of seven true road games.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-3): Dylan Talley and Jorge Brian Diaz each missed the Alcorn State game due to injuries and it especially showed as the team scored a season-low 23 points in the first half. Despite Diaz’s absence, the Huskers were able to grab a season-high 17 offensive rebounds. Leading scorer Bo Spencer shot 3-of-12 from the field and managed just 11 points, but did not commit a turnover after posting 13 over his previous two games.
1. McCray went 9-of-11 (81.8 percent) from the floor against the Braves while the rest of the team shot 12-of-42 (28.6).
2. Central Michigan’s six free throw attempts against the Cyclones matched its fewest attempts in a game since a loss at Buffalo on Feb. 14, 2004.
3. The Huskers have held three of their opponents under 50 points this season while the Chippewas have scored 57 points or less in each of their last three losses.
