NCAA Baskteball Odds: No 21 Alabama vs Kansas State
Saturday, December 17, 2011
Frank Martin
Coach Frank Martin lost to an old friend in Kansas State’s double-overtime setback against Bob Huggins and West Virginia on Dec. 8, and he’ll square off against another good buddy when his Wildcats take on No. 21 Alabama Crimson Tide in Kansas City, Mo. Martin and Crimson Tide coach Anthony Grant first met as sophomores on the basketball team at Miami Senior High School, and the two have remained close. Grant is also the godfather of Martin’s eldest child, Brandon. Martin came out on top against Grant in 2009 when Kansas State Wildcats won 87-74 to tie the all-time series at 1-1.

The Crimson Tide have opened as 2-point favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NCAA Basketball Odds.
Alabama Crimson Tide (8-2): This game will serve as a homecoming of sorts for sophomore guard Trevor Releford, who averages 10.5 points and a team-high 3.0 assists. Releford, the younger half brother of Kansas swingman Travis Releford, played at Kansas City’s Bishop Miege High School. Alabama snapped a two-game skid with a 62-54 victory over Detroit on Sunday. JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell lead the Crimson Tide in scoring at 15.4 points per game, and Mitchell has led the team in rebounding in seven of 10 games.
Kansas State Wildcats (6-1): It is a good thing the Wildcats had a week off for final exams because they would have been in danger of getting fatigued otherwise. Kansas State lost in double overtime to West Virginia, and three days later needed one extra session to escape with a 79-68 home victory over North Florida. Freshman Thomas Gipson, who leads the Wildcats with 14.0 points per game, recorded the third double-double of his blossoming career with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Gipson, a bulky 6-7, 275-pound forward, also ranks third in the Big 12 with 8.1 boards per game.
1.
This is the fifth straight season Kansas
State has played what counts as a home game in Kanas City.
2. Alabama is allowing only 55.3 points on 35.6 percent field goal
shooting over the first 10 games.
3. The
Wildcats played in back-to-back overtime games for the first time since 1964.
