NCAA Basketball Predictions and Scores: Kansas State vs Texas Tech
Wednesday, January 25, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
No. 24 Kansas State Wildcats could get a boost when it takes on Texas Tech Red Raiders on Wednesday at United Spirit Arena.
Junior forward Jordan Henriquez, who was suspended indefinitely last week for conduct detrimental to the team, is expected to be reinstated by head coach Frank Martin in time for the game. Henriquez didn't play in Kansas State's 66-58 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday, and the undersized Wildcats will need his presence going forward.
Henriquez averages seven points and five rebounds and has also registered 39 blocks. The Red Raiders are still searching for their first Big 12 victory.
They are 0-6, including a 76-52 home loss to Iowa State over the weekend. Kansas State has won three straight in the series.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Wildcats listed as 11½-point favorites versus the Red Raiders.
Kansas State Wildcats (14-4): After a 1-3 start in Big 12 play, the Wildcats have a chance to move above .500 for the first time. While Kansas State doesn't have much of a chance to catch Kansas, which sits atop the conference at 7-0, the Wildcats can at least put some room between them and the five teams below — all of which are 2-4 or worse. Under Martin, K-State has fared well in conference road games, posting a respectable 17-18 record. The Wildcats defeated Texas Tech 83-64 in their last trip to Lubbock in 2009.
Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-11): First-year head coach Billy Gillispie has one of the youngest teams in the country and knew that he had a full-blown rebuilding job when he took over. That said, even he probably couldn't have imagined this poor of a start. Five of Texas Tech's six Big 12 losses have been by 12 or more, and one — an 81-46 home loss against Kansas on Jan. 11 — was a laugher from beginning to end. The Red Raiders' three home losses in conference play have come by an average of 24 points. Offense has been the primary culprit, as they haven't scored more than 60 since Dec. 30 against Southeast Louisiana, their last non-conference game.
1. In Texas Tech’s last four Big 12 games, it has scored 52, 55, 54 and 46 points.
2. Since scoring a season-low four points in a win against Long Beach State on Dec. 25, Kansas State’s Rodney McGruder has tallied 14 or more in eight straight — including two 30-point efforts.
3. The Wildcats are 6-3 on the road or at neutral sites.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Wildcats 74, Red Raiders 59.
