NCAA Basketball Odds: Nebraska at No 7 Ohio State
Tuesday, January 03, 2012
Frank Martin
Both No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes and Nebraska Cornhuskers are coming off difficult losses to ranked Big Ten opponents. The Buckeyes became the second high-ranked victim of No. 12 Indiana’s resurgence in Saturday’s 74-70 loss at Assembly Hall, ending their five-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, they return to the friendly confines of Value City Arena in hopes of extending their 34-game home winning streak – the third-longest current streak in college basketball and second-longest in school history. They will attempt to add to those streaks against the Huskers, who nearly overcame a 15-point second-half deficit Michigan State but ultimately faded late in a 68-55 home setback against the Spartans on Saturday. Ohio State leads the all-time series 4-2, although the schools have not met since 1989.

Nebraska Cornhuskers (8-5, 0-2 Big Ten): Josiah Moore made his first career start against Michigan State and is the first freshmen to start for the Huskers since the 2009-10 season (Jorge Brian Diaz). In an effort to get some scoring punch from his reserves that produced a total of 11 points over the previous three games, coach Doc Sadler brought leading scorer Bo Spencer off the bench against the Spartans. Spencer responded with a team-high 15 points.
Ohio State Buckeyes (13-2, 1-1): The Buckeyes’ 17 turnovers against Indiana were two shy of the season-high 19 miscues they committed against VMI while their 22 fouls matched their season high at Kansas in their only other loss of the season. The Buckeyes rank second in scoring offense (78.6 points per game), scoring defense (56.4) and field-goal percentage (49.2) in the conference and lead the Big Ten with 17.6 assists per game.
1.
Jared Sullinger recorded nine rebounds
against Indiana,
giving him 501 in
his 50-game career.
2. The Huskers have allowed each of their last four opponents to shoot
at least 46 percent from the field. Only two of their first nine opponents hit
that mark.
3. William
Buford is just one of four players in school history to reach 1,000 points, 500
rebounds and 300 assists. He is just 117 minutes away from becoming the fifth
Buckeye to make 400 field goals and log at least 4,000 minutes.
