MSU (16-11, 8-7 Big Ten) probably earns a bid if it wins this game, with two more winnable games remaining in the regular season. This is a bit of a statement game for MSU star guard Kalin Lucas, who has really emerged in the past few weeks. In the Spartans’ first meeting with Purdue, an 86-76 Boilermakers victory, Lucas was just 3-for-16 from the field and was totally outplayed by counterpart Lewis Jackson, who scored a career-high 19 points. But since that game, Lucas is averaging 21.4 points per game. It's the best eight-game scoring stretch of his career.
No. 8 Purdue Boilermakers (23-5, 12-3) has won five straight and two in a row on the road. The Boilers will need to win out and get some help to tie Ohio State for the Big Ten regular-season title. But if Purdue can win out, a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament is possible. Purdue is led by guard E’Twaun Moore and forward/center JaJuan Johnson. Moore has averaged 23.8 in his last five games and had 26 against the Spartans in that first meeting. Johnson had 20 in that previous game and he and Moore combine to average 39.0 points per game on the season, accounting for more than 50 percent of Purdue's season scoring average.
A win here would give Purdue its first regular-season sweep of MSU since 1997. The Boilers won in East Lansing last year for the first time since 1998.
