NBA Playoff Odds: Spurs at Mavericks, Game 1

Dallas Mavericks Betting

Most people believe that if there is going to be one upset in the quarterfinal round of the NBA playoffs it will happen in the Lone State State series between No. 2 Dallas Mavericks and No. 7 San Antonio Spurs. However, the Mavs are -200 favorites on Bodog Sportsbook’s NBA odds for Sunday night’s opener.

Dallas hasn’t lost more than two games in a row since acquiring Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood from Washington. The Dallas Mavericks are the NBA’s best free-throw shooting team led by star Dirk Nowitzki. He has made 74 in a row from the charity stripe.

San Antonio has probably one last chance at a championship before its window closes – but it’s probably already shut. Manu Ginobili is playing well, averaging 21.4 points since the All-Star break and nearly 24 in the past 14 games, but Tim Duncan is showing his age, averaging just 15.5 points since the break.

The main injury concern for Game 1 is Spurs guard George Hill, who is being called a game-time decision for Sunday night, but fellow guard Tony Parker said that Hill will play. Hill was hurt in Wednesday’s season finale 96-89 loss at Dallas Mavericks, tweaking his ankle. He averaged 12.4 points during the regular season and was the Spurs' best 3-point shooter at 39.9 percent. But don’t make much of that recent game, as both Duncan and Ginobili sat for San Antonio Spurs.

Dallas won the season series 3-1, but the first two meetings were way back in November and the third was before the Mavericks brought in Butler and Haywood. The Mavs ousted the San Antonio Spurs in five games in this same playoff round last year.

The Dallas Mavericks were among the worst teams in the league in covering at home this season and have done so just seven times in the past 36 games. However, San Antonio is 0-5 ATS in the past five in Dallas.
