NBA Playoff Odds: Nuggets at Jazz, Game 4

Utah Jazz Las Vegas Odds

So here is a weird statistic involving the Utah Jazz as they attempt to take a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night: Utah is 20-3 in its past 23 Game 3 home playoff games but just 10-12 in its past 22 Game 4s at home. But the Jazz are 2.5-point favorites on Bodog’s NBA odds to reverse that trend tonight.

The Denver Nuggets simply aren’t a good road team and that showed in Game 3’s 105-93 loss. Utah’s Deron Williams and Paul Millsap were dominant on Friday, with Williams scoring 24 points and dishing out 10 assists and Millsap having playoff career-highs of 22 points and 19 rebounds. Williams was just one point shy of joining Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to have 25 points and 10 assists in each of the first three games of a playoff series. He has been easily the best player in this series so far. He is averaging 27.7 points, 11.7 assists and shooting 53.5 percent.

Denver seems on the verge of an implosion without coach George Karl, who continues to get cancer treatments. Carmelo Anthony questioned the team’s intensity following that Game 3 loss, which wasn’t even as close as the score. Denver shot 43.1 percent and managed just 12 assists for the game. By comparison, the Denver Nuggets had 29 assists in their Game 1 victory. Melo’s scoring has dropped from 42 to 32 to 25 points in the series.

How important is tonight’s game? Only eight teams in NBA history have overcome a 3-1 series deficit. Because of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Game 4 is pretty unusual. Out of respect for the large Mormon population in Utah Jazz, the team doesn’t schedule Sunday regular-season games. Thus tonight the Utah Jazz will host their first Sunday game since May 11, 2008.
