NBA Futures Odds – Heat to Win 2010-11 NBA Title

by BetUS.com
Maybe it’s me pro basketball betting enthusiasts, but I’m trying to figure out how NBA oddsmakers have installed the Miami Heat as the prohibitive odds-on-favorites to win the 2010-11 NBA championship, when the team that takes the court for the first time this coming season, has not played a single regular season game together – until they take to the court for their 2010-11 opener.
Yes, I know the Heat added Chris Bosh and LeBron ‘The Deserter’ James to go along with team leader and resident superstar Dwyane Wade, but the fact of the matter is that know one know exactly how good the Heat will be this coming season – unlike several other ballclubs I believe have a far greater chance of hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy than Miami does.

This expert breakdown on the top favorites to take home next season’s title will help pro basketball betting buffs everywhere make a knowledgeable wager on the entertaining NBA Championship Futures Odds in the bettor-friendly BetUS Basketball Sportsbook.
- Miami Heat +175
The Miami Heat may have acquired LeBron James and Chris Bosh, but I’m n jot conceding anything at all to this team because of what they have put together on paper.
The fact of the matter is that Boston’s Rajon Rondo was dead-on right about this team when he said that no one knows how they will jell, commit to defense or defend opposing teams like Boston or L.A. that have huge front lines.
- Los Angeles Lakers +300
I am flat-out shocked that the Lakers aren’t the prohibitive favorites to win it all after recording consecutive championship titles – and basically coming back next season with a roster that looks even more dangerous than the one that just won this year’s championship.
- Boston Celtics +1000
Call me crazy, but until some Eastern Conference knocks off the Celtics when fully healthy, I’ve got to believe they’re still the team to beat in the East – like Rondo, Doc Rivers and some of the team’s other players have said this offseason. Boston may not have upgraded its roster quite as well as some other teams, but I believe they got two absolute steals in former National High School Play of the Year, Avery Bradley and former Notre Dame star Luke Harangody, not to mention the fact that Kevin Garnett will be healthier as he recovers from his serious knee injury from just over a year ago.
- Orlando Magic +1000
The Orlando Magic seem to be getting totally forgotten about as a legitimate title contender despite the fact that they’ve clearly been one of the best three or four teams in the league for the last three seasons at the least. I know Vince Carter is a little girly (okay, a lot girly) and doesn’t possess the all-around skills that former player Hedo Turkoglu does, but the Magic are my second favorite to come out of the East behind Boston as no team in the league can contain Dwight Howard – and the athletic big man has been in Houston this summer working on improving his offensive skill set with none other than Hakeem Olajuwon himself.
- Oklahoma City Thunder +1600
I wrote years ago that the Oklahoma City Thunder were building a fine team thanks to the hiring of former Spurs assistant GM Sam Presti, and now everything I said is coming to fruition. The Thunder gave the Lakers the scare of their postseason lives last season and have improved its roster even more thanks to their two first round picks, former Kentucky point guard Eric Bledsoe and former Iowa State power forward Craig Brackins. I don’t believe the Thunder are quite ready to win it all next season, but all bets are off after that!
- Chicago Bulls +1600
The Bulls added power forward Carlos Boozer, dead-eye three-point sniper Kyle Korver and underrated two guard Ronnie Brewer to a team that already had budding stars in point guard Derrick Rose, center Joakim Noah and young power forward Taj Gibson (who I feel really bad for). Maybe it’s me, but right now, I suspect the Bulls will be just as good as the revamped Heat.
- Dallas Mavericks +1800
The Mavs bowed out of last season’s playoff like a bunch of little punks (what’s new?) but the team is still loaded with talent and I suspect they will be better this coming season than they were a year ago. If the Mavericks are smart, they’ll make sure that Caron ‘Tough Juice’ Butler takes a much more active role on the court and in the locker room!
- Denver Nuggets +2000
The Nuggets blew it a couple of years ago and now their window of opportunity is almost closed if you ask me! Now, with Carmelo Anthony set to bolt following the coming season, Denver could be in big trouble in the near future. The Nuggets didn’t have a pick in either round of this year’s draft, but do have a point guard of the future in Ty Lawson. Still, this team appears as if it is headed towards a downward spiral.
- San Antonio Spurs +2200
Sure, I’m the nation’s No. 1 individual handicapper, but maybe I should go into the odds-making business, because there is no way on earth the Spurs should have longer odds to win next season’s title than the Nuggets, (or Mavs, for that matter) no matter how badly they underachieved this past season. San Antonio got a player that will contribute right away in No. 20 overall draft pick James Anderson, while also adding another player that could turn out to potentially be an all-star in former Spanish league MVP Tiago Splitter, a 7-footer with fantastic all-around skills.
- Portland Trailblazers +2500
I like Nate McMillan, Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and veteran point guard Andre Miller a lot and think the addition of Marcus Camby was a very smart move late last season. Jerry Bayless and Dante Cunningham have the respective looks of possible future starters, but I just can’t see the Blazers getting past many of the Western Conference teams on this very list. It’s a damn shame – and I hate to even write it – but oft-injured center Greg Oden is a modern-day Sam Bowie and I now, everyone knows Portland dropped the ball in passing up on Kevin Durant three years ago.
Overall Analysis: If I’m betting on this wager, I’m backing the Lakers and Celtics first and foremost. L.A. has been in three straight finals while Boston has participated in two of the past three – and likely would have been in all three had Kevin Garnett not gotten hurt two years ago.
I also like the Orlando Magic and the continuity they’ve shown the last three seasons, along with a Spurs team I believe will really contend this coming season and Oklahoma City Thunder team that has ‘future greatness’ written all over it.
Last but certainly not least, I like the Heat and Mavericks, but I’m not prepared to go out on a limb right no for either team until I see a lot more.
