Led by the solid effort of Thaddeus Young, with 20 points and 11 boards, the Sixers once again struggled with fouls. This season against the Heat, Philadelphia trails 61-127 in free throw attempts, including 15-39 in Game 1.
Although Philadelphia held the three stars of Miami to less than 50 percent shooting from the floor, giving up points from the free-throw line has a devastating effect.
Another key factor in Miami’s success was its rebounding. Despite less-than-average shooting, the Heat dominated the boards in Game 1, 52-39, allowing Miami second-chance points and ball control.
However, the Sixers have good news for Game 2, as Miami’s Dwayne Wade is uncertain after suffering a migraine after Game 1. Although Wade only put up 17 points in the Game 1 win, his leadership controlled the tempo of the final minutes of the game and secured the Miami win.
Without Wade, will LeBron James be able to step up to fill his shoes? James led the Heat with 21 points and 14 boards in Game 1 and appears poised and capable for another big effort in Game 2.
Wade’s status will play a large factor into the betting pick of this game. Regardless if Wade plays, he will likely need to play with goggles, which are likely to cause him a bit of discomfort as he adjusts.
