Fred Hoiberg - Iowa St. Cyclones Host Kansas St. Wildcats in NCAA Betting Matchup

The Iowa State Cyclones will attempt to take down a second straight Sunflower State opponent when it hosts Kansas State Wildcats on Tuesday at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones, who improved to 5-3 in the Big 12 with their 72-64 upset win over then-No. 5 Kansas, have won three of their last four overall. In the process, they've moved from seventh to fourth in the conference standings.

Kansas State, meanwhile, saw its three-game win streak come to an end in a 63-60 home loss to Oklahoma. The Wildcats have won nine of their last 10 against the Cyclones, who last defeated K-State 85-82 in 2010.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Cyclones listed as 1-point favorites versus the Wildcats.

Kansas State Wildcats (15-5): The 60 points were the lowest scored at home all season by Kansas State, and while poor shooting was the main culprit, the 20 turnovers certainly didn't help. The Wildcats tied a season high for turnovers — they had 20 in a home loss to Baylor on Jan. 10 — and in their last three losses, they've committed a total of 58. The good news for Kansas State is that the Cyclones haven't been able to slow them down in recent meetings. Over the last two years, the Wildcats have averaged 78 points, including 86 in a narrow one-point win last year at Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State Cyclones (15-6): Fred Hoiberg's master plan is beginning to take form. Hoiberg, the second-year Iowa State head coach, brought in four transfers in the offseason and banked on them making an instant impact. Three of the transfers — Royce White (Minnesota), Chris Babb (Penn State) and Chris Allen (Michigan State) — are among the team's five highest scorers. Now, boosted by the signature victory over the Jayhawks, Iowa State is positioning itself for its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2005. But with a tough five-game stretch that includes three road games, the Cyclones will need to prove they can handle success against a team it has struggled with recently.

1. Iowa State is 11-2 at home this season.

2. The five wins through eight Big 12 games is the most of any Cyclones team since the 2000-01 season. That year, they began league play 6-2 en route to a 13-3 conference record.

3. K-State is trying to defeat the Cyclones on the road for the sixth straight time, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 1972-77.

BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Wildcats 71, Cyclones 68.
