The theme for this game is survival, and the key to our free betting picks is going to be which team wants to survive more.
Of course, for the Texas Longhorns, we're not worried about getting into the NCAA Tournament, as there might not be a team in the land that has a bigger chokehold on a spot on the dance floor right now than they do. However, if they want to survive as a No. 1 seed on that dance floor, they're going to need to figure out how to win this game. The situation is very similar to that of the Kansas Jayhawks from earlier this week, as they were beaten on the road by the Kansas State Wildcats, a team that they killed in Lawrence earlier in the season.
We've been waiting for this very young team to have a mental lapse in a game like this, but it just hasn't come to fruition as of yet. Players like Jordan Hamilton and Tristan Thompson just keep putting up big numbers game in and game out, and the club just hasn't taken one huge drop at any point.
Nebraska might be the real deal, but that three game skid at the end of January into the start of February really might have sealed its deal. The Cornhuskers don't have the resume to get into the NCAA Tournament at this point, and they need a lot to get the job done. However, we have to remember that, just like KSU, one win can really change everything. Jorge Brian Diaz is coming off of a great 17 point performance against the Oklahoma Sooners, a game in which Big Red had to survive by a single point.
He's not the key to make free betting picks, though. The key is the defense. Nebraska Cornhuskers has done a great job holding a number of teams in the 50s in scoring. In fact, its average points per game allowed number is at just 58.8.
When it has allowed 62 points or fewer, it is 15-1 this year. It's a very iffy 2-7 when it doesn't pull off that feat.
Don't be shocked if there's not a shocker in the cards. The Nebraska Cornhuskers remember that 40 point loss to Texas last year in Lincoln and will really be out to avenge it. The hosts are the subjects of our free betting picks on Saturday.
