Griffin III only played a half in last weekend’s 66-42 win over Texas Tech that completed a perfect November for Baylor. Griffin, the national leader in total offense (412 yards per game), completed 7 of 11 passes for 106 yards with a touchdown. He ran 14 times for 62 yards and two scores. But Griffin suffered a concussion after being hit as he slid near the end of the second quarter. He returned after being attended to by trainers, running for a 3-yard touchdown, but he did not play after halftime. Griffin, who has 3,678 yards passing with 34 touchdowns and five interceptions and has run for 612 yards and seven touchdowns, will start Saturday.
No. 17 Baylor (8-3) is 5-3 in the Big 12 this year, the first time the Bears have ever won five Big 12 games in a single season. They also have their most wins since 1991.
Texas (7-4, 4-4) wasn’t much of a factor in the Big 12 for the second year in a row. The Longhorns have had their offensive struggles this season in using QBs Case McCoy and David Ash. McCoy got the start last week and went the distance in UT’s 27-25 win at Texas A&M on Thanksgiving night. He only threw for 110 yards but no picks and will start against Baylor. Justin Tucker kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to give the Longhorns the win despite having only 237 total yards of offense. It was the second-lowest total for the Longhorns in a win in the last five seasons.
The Longhorns have totally dominated this series but Baylor won last year 30-22 in Austin as Griffin threw for two scores and ran for another. Baylor ended a 12-game losing streak against Texas and won its first game at Austin since 1991.
UT is 1-5 ATS in its past six as an underdog. Baylor is 6-0 ATS in its past six home games. Texas is 5-2 ATS in past seven trips to Baylor.
