Sunday, January 29, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
The California Golden Bears puts its unbeaten home record on the line against Stanford Cardinal, which needs a win to keep pace in the crowded Pac-12 race.
The Golden Bears, who have won four of their last five games against the Cardinal, are 13-0 at Haas Pavilion while outscoring opponents by 21.3 points.
Stanford's strong start came to a halt last weekend with back-to-back losses to the Washington schools, and the Cardinal could fall at least two games out of first place with a loss to California.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Golden Bears listed as 8½-point favorites versus the Cardinal.
Stanford Cardinal (15-5): Forward Dwight Powell scored a career-high 20 points against California last year at Maples Pavilion, but he's averaging only 4.7 points and 3.7 rebounds this season. Josh Owens, who has 15 points in five career games against the Golden Bears, leads the Cardinal with 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds, and his 60.9 percent field goal percentage ranks eighth in the nation. Stanford was 11 of 52 from 3-point range last weekend against the Washington schools, and guard Aaron Bright is 5 for 23 from beyond the arc in his past four games.
California Golden Bears (16-5): The Golden Bears saw their bench outscored 42-4 in a 77-75 loss at Washington State last Saturday, snapping a four-game win streak. Forward Harper Kamp has scored in double figures in three of his last four games, and he'll be charged with slowing down Owens, who averaged 16.5 points and eight rebounds on the Washington road trip. The Golden Bears are clearly a guard-oriented team, with Jorge Gutierrez, Allen Crabbe and Justin Cobbs averaging at least 13 points apiece. The 6-foot-6 Crabbe also leads the team in rebounds.
1. The game features five of the Pac-12’s top 15 3-point shooters, including Cobbs, who leads the conference at 53.8 percent.
2. California has won six of the last 10 games against Stanford at Haas Pavilion.
3. The Golden Bears will wear pink shoes against Stanford as part of the 9th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Golden Bears 69, Cardinal 63.
