Basketball Prediction: Ohio State Buckeyes vs Nebraska Cornhuskers
Saturday, January 21, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
Just as quickly as Nebraska Cornhuskers had a chance to absorb its stunning home win over No.13 Indiana on Wednesday, the Cornhuskers realized they had to prepare for yet another ranked Big Ten opponent on Saturday – No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes.
After a rough start in a new conference, Nebraska pulled off one of the bigger upsets in the country this season when it defeated the Hoosiers.
However, registering another surprise ending against their seventh opponent in eight conference games that is either currently ranked or has been in the Top 25 at some point this season will be a tall order after Ohio State handed the Cornhuskers' worst loss of the season 71-40 on Jan. 3.
Ohio State leads the all-time series 5-2 dating back to 1936, although the last meeting prior to this season came in the 1989 NIT.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Buckeyes listed as 11½-point favorites versus the Cornhuskers.
Ohio State Buckeyes (16-3): In the Buckeyes' earlier rout of the Cornhuskers, they won the battle of the boards 44-21 and forced more turnovers (17) than allowed field goals (16). As its overall ranking attests, Ohio State is one of the most dominant teams in the country, ranking first nationally in scoring margin (21.3), second in turnover margin (6.2), ninth in field goal percentage (49.7) and 10th in rebound margin (8.1).
Nebraska Cornhuskers (10-8): Since dropping their first three conference games by an average of 22.7 points while two of their top scorers – center Jorge Brian Diaz and guard Dylan Talley – were sidelined by injury, the Cornhuskers are 2-2 upon their return. Although very few positives could be taken away from their first meeting against the Buckeyes, Nebraska did record 13 steals, which is a season high for the Huskers and for an Ohio State opponent.
1. The Buckeyes’ Thad Matta will be coaching his 400th career game on Saturday.
2. On Saturday, Nebraska will be looking to upset ranked teams in consecutive games for only the fifth time in school history and first time since 2008.
3. The Buckeyes have won by double figures in 14 of their 16 victories this year.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Buckeyes 68, Cornhuskers 54.
