Basketball Betting Lines and Picks: Kansas Jayhawks vs Texas Longhorns
Saturday, January 21, 2012
by Joe Rodriguez
Another season in the Big 12, another year where everyone else is looking up at Kansas Jayhawks in the standings.
After the seventh-ranked Jayhawks polished off then-undefeated Baylor on Monday, they moved into sole possession of first place in the Big 12, a league they've won or at least shared the title for seven straight seasons.
Kansas is 5-0 in conference play for the fourth time under Bill Self and seventh time in the 16-year history of the conference.
The Jayhawks will look to extend their eight-game winning streak against Texas Longhorns, which is a perfect 11-0 at the Erwin Center in 2011-12, throttling opponents by 20.7 points per contest.

Justbet Sportsbook currently have the Jayhawks listed as 3½-point favorites versus the Longhorns.
Kansas Jayhawks (15-3): Junior forward Thomas Robinson — a national player of the year candidate — has owned the paint all season, averaging 17.8 points and 12.3 rebounds and leading the Big 12 with 13 double-doubles. But it's been the play of Tyshawn Taylor that has elevated the Jayhawks. The senior guard posted a career-high 28 points in back-to-back outings, the most points for a Kansas player over a two-game stretch since Sherron Collins' 57 in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Texas Longhorns (12-6): The Big 12 schedule-makers weren't kind to the youthful Longhorns, who have already lost at Iowa State, Missouri and Kansas State and have another trip to Baylor coming up in a week. Texas — which features six freshmen among its nine regular contributors — is making strides but has yet to show in the win-loss record. Freshman point guard Myck Kabongo is starting to find a rhythm, recording back-to-back double-doubles and averaging 13 points and 10 assists while shooting 53 percent from the field.
1. Kansas leads this all-time series 18-7, but Texas has taken three of the last four in Austin.
2. The Longhorns have won nine of their last 11 home games against top-10 opponents.
3. Ten of Texas’ 11 home wins this season have come by double digits.
BASKETBALL PREDICTION: Longhorns 70, Jayhawks 68.
